In the corner of Ormes and St Jean buildings was a small store that the Brothers had set up to sell school supplies and some chocolate bars and candy. The Swiss chocolate turned out to be a big hit with me!! I can also remember Brother Busch hanging out his window at the corner of the St Jean building telling us kids not to eat too much candy. He was a good guy. Again under the heading of amazing the strange things one remembers, in the second year some of the Sapiniere students set up a small cafe business in the basement of Sapiniere, with an exit also on the adjacent tennis court. This was primarily soft drinks and I think some chips as well. But let me tell you with the restricted food supplies we were subjected to, and ice cold Coke was a big hit and we made as much use of this place as they allowed the Ormes crew in. It was also about this time that some of the students started renting drums and some noise would come from the auditorium adjacent to the cafe. Seems to me that in the 1965-1966 school year we started having movies shown on weekend nights in the Bossuet basement gym -- these were well received and a real novelty. Below there are 2 pages of photos of what looks like a charity children's event hosted by Bossuet students. Never knew about it until I saw the yearbook. |
