In 1965 Father Dave Paul moved to Fribourg, Switzerland, where he taught at Villa St. Jean International School before entering the Regina Mundi Seminary. Although he served at Villa St. Jean only briefly,
he made a lasting impact on students there.
This forward-thinking man touched many of our lives at the Villa, and contributed to many of the changes at the Villa that improved our experience there and our lives going forward,
wrote alumnus Brian Lawler. Another alumnus, Jim Craig, wrote: I am grateful for everything he shared with me, in the very short time I spent with him. Father Paul has had a profound impact on my life.
Metaphorically, he lifted a stone from my heart.

Montage of VSJ PHOTOS from Villa St. Jean blog project
Villa photos from the collection established by alumni Thomas Brew's "Villa St. Jean blog project", originally hosted on the blogging platform "Vox" goo.gl/i88hml until the
service was closed and the photos auto-migrated by Vox to the photo-sharing site Flikr, which was later acquired by Yahoo. The collection contains a large number of original period photos from our late,
great Yearbook Photographer Joe Stivers as well as other contemporary photos.

Historical PHOTOS of Fribourg
When I first arrived as a student in Fribourg I was amazed at all of the other things -- a bridge, a fountain etc -- that also had the name St. Jean in them.
At the time, I thought there must be a connection with Villa St. Jean. Later I learnt that the name of the bridge and the fountain comes from the Commanderie of St-Jean.
(Editor's Note: A recent publication: La commanderie de Saint-Jean de Jérusalem à Fribourg. Die Johanniterkommende von Freiburg, Freiburg 2014 (Patrimoine Fribourgeois, no 20).
-- thank you Dr. Kathrin Tremp for this reference)
