APPENDIX A – EXTENDED BROOKS FAMILY GENEALOGY
A.15.0 The Joe Brooks Family Line
A15.1 Joe Brooks HOMESTEAD PROPERTY in Bluesky
The online
Alberta Homestead Records for 1870-1930 lists one property for Joseph Brooks just south of Old Bluesky.
BROOKS, Joseph |
Section 30 | Township 80 | Range 1 W | Meridian 6 |
Film # 2452 in Accession # 1970.313 at Provincial Archives of Alberta |
File # 3168678 |
This HOMESTEAD property is located "right across the street" from father Hubert Brooks' HOMESTEAD of SE 25-80-2W-6.
As a comment, this file 3168678 is also linked with Joe's father Hubert Brooks, as Hubert had to make a supporting affidavit stating that he also had resided
on the HOMESTEAD property continuously since March of 1920 AND on 7-Nov-1924 Hubert "produced evidence showing ownership of the HOMESTEAD from 10-Oct-1922
to the current date, that all payments had been made to date, and at least one-third of the total purchase price had been made."
As a further comment, this HOMESTEAD was originally settled and then abandoned by first Martin Quinn in April 1914 and then by Kenneth Colin MacKenzie in Sept. of 1919.
As a reminder, the terms under the Dominion Lands Act, the federal government's plan for settling the North-West,
was that the homesteader gained (final) title to the quarter section if and only if after three years he had cultivated 30 acres and had built
a house on the land.
The purpose of these SECTIONS is not only to present original homestead documents related to Hubert's property but
also to get some insight into Joseph BROOKS family life at the time from responses presented in his own words to questions asked on the various forms.
